The Story...
A long, long time ago, way before Fake books or even My space's, way back in the good ole AOL days there was no good way to share family pictures. So Baconcake.com was created to share family pictures and capture memories. I was the sole author and web master and for years it flourished, It had a resurgence after my parents passed away as a place the family could relive memories from all the photo books brought out of the closet and scanned back to life on Baconcake.com. But alas it was not to survive, "Social Media" took a heavy toll and the family looked elsewhere for memories. I continued to pull boxes out of the attic and scan them onto Baconcake.com but my time was running out...
Originally I hosted out of my closet but with the internet companies going to dynamic IP addresses it was time to go to an actual hosting service. I signed up for a hosting site for a few bucks a month with a limit of 10gb with the cavort if you go over your limit we won't provide you backups. Seemed like a fair deal since I had all the source on my systems at home, so I just kept uploading pictures. Well, I guess someone from the hosting company noticed this year and told me they were going to enforce the 10GB limit. All I had to do was remove about 450GB of pictures and I would be back within the limit. I got busy doing other stuff and forgot about reducing my site down to 10GB. Then I got the renewal notice and the upgrade to the appropriate plan, instead of a few bucks a month it was going up to $167!. So needless to say I am not hosting the family pictures on Baconcake.com any time soon.
It's been a good run, now I just need to figure out a new strategy going forward. Thanks to everyone that has enjoyed the site...
